Stefanie Sun public concert, fireworks display and spectacular interplay of music with architecture by American music performance ensemble, String Theory
24 November 2006, Singapore - VivoCity, Singapore's largest multi-experiential retail and lifestyle destination will celebrate its Grand Opening with style on 1 December. Among the programmes lined up to mark the occasion include a visually dramatic performance by American music performance ensemble, String Theory, a 45-minute live-show by popular regional singer, Stefanie Sun and a specially choreographed fireworks display on the roof of VivoCity and over the waterfront.
In their first ever appearance in Singapore, String Theory, will enthral viewers by playing from a giant harp, which will directly interact with the architecture it is incorporated to. With its brass-wire strings, some of which are over 300 metres long, attached onto the physical building structures at VivoCity, String Theory will transform the building into a giant musical instrument to create its own distinctive blend of music.
String Theory has played to critical acclaim during the recent 48th GRAMMY Awards and performed at New York's Waldorf Astoria, Washington D.C.'s Kennedy Centre, Seattle's Space Needle and the CNN Centre in Atlanta. The public will be able to catch String Theory's first performance in VivoCity on The Promenade (along the waterfront), from 8.30pm until 9.15pm on 1 December. Thereafter, from 2 – 10 December, String Theory will perform at 6pm and 8pm daily. Members of the audience will also get the chance to try out the giant harp for themselves.
To celebrate its Grand Opening, VivoCity will also be having a live-show by Stefanie Sun for its shoppers. From 24 November, shoppers, who spend a minimum of S$300 (maximum of five receipts within the same day), will be given a pair of tickets to watch Stefanie Sun live at the VivoCity Amphitheatre (while tickets last). Admission to the performance is strictly by tickets only. The show will be held on 1 December from 9.30pm - 10.15pm at the VivoCity Amphitheatre at the Sky Park (level 3).
One of the highlights of the Grand Opening celebrations will be a spectacular six-minute display of fireworks, comprising bursts of slow-fall lantern shells, blinking strobes and thousand-blooming flowers to be set off from the roof of VivoCity and from three barges located across the HarbourFront bay. The fireworks display will light up an area spanning over 900 meters, filling the night sky with its breathtaking and dazzling effects.
