Inspiring Environmental Awareness and Appreciation – VivoCity, ARC and HarbourFront Centre Celebrate Earth Day

18 APRIL 2013, SINGAPORE – In celebration of Earth Day 2013, VivoCity, Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC) and HarbourFront Centre will usher in a series of initiatives to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Following up on activities held during Earth Day in 2012, the campaign will be extended this year – to raise even greater awareness amongst shoppers to do their part for sustainable living, in commemoration of the occasion observed internationally in over 192 countries yearly.

Creative Mall, Centre and Tenant Initiatives

On Earth Day, 22 April, VivoCity and ARC will conserve energy without compromising the comfort or shopping experience of visitors by increasing the air-conditioning by one degree, while HarbourFront Centre will do the same by half to one degree. In addition, VivoCity will also turn off the water feature at The Plaza for a day.

Tenants from across VivoCity, ARC and HarbourFront Centre will also demonstrate their support for Earth Day. For example, nearly 30 tenants in VivoCity alone have pledged to reduce or dim the lighting in their outlets. Costa Coffee and The Soup Spoon will be going one step further, by providing unique candlelit dining experiences for their diners

Save the Earth As You Shop!

Shoppers will get a free environmentally-friendly shopping bag, with a minimum spend of $50 in three cumulative receipts on the same day. Valid throughout the campaign period of 20 April 2013 to 28 April 2013, redemption can be made at the Customer Service counters in VivoCity, ARC and HarbourFront Centre, on a first-come-first serve basis.

Roving “Earth Day” Performers

On 20 April 2013, the “Flower Galore Girls” will be carrying creative placards spreading the Earth Day message by encouraging shoppers to recycle – with roving sessions at both VivoCity and HarbourFront Centre starting at 4.00pm and 7.00pm.

Recycling Initiatives with the National Environmental Agency

In addition, the National Environmental Agency (NEA) will also be putting up an exhibition in ARC and HarbourFront Centre to highlight the importance of recycling and energy conservation. Complemented by education panels, games and educational videos, the exhibition will be held at ARC from 22 April to 25 April and HarbourFront Centre from 26 April to 28 April respectively.
